The black face you see is the evidence of a bigger leak or contamination problem. A new filter without fixing the source is like changing the oil in a car with a leaking engine.

Choosing a Hoffman Enclosure: NEMA 3R and Disconnect Enclosures

The enclosure itself is mostly about getting the rating right. For outdoor installations that need rain protection but not watertight sealing, you'll often hear 'Hoffman NEMA 3R enclosure' as the default answer. That's fair: according to NEMA ICS 6 and UL 50, a Type 3R enclosure is rated for falling rain and sleet, but not for high-pressure water or dust. So if you're mounting a disconnect switch outdoors, a Hoffman disconnect enclosure with the correct NEMA 3R rating can be the right call—but only if you also think about airflow, filters, and condensation.

The same principle applies indoors. A vented enclosure with a fan is great until the filter turns into a dust cake. Honestly, the cheapest way to buy an air filter dryer is to buy one sized correctly. Ask for the pressure drop at your actual flow rate, not the inlet connection size. If the vendor won't share that number, consider that a red flag.

Control Panel Overlay: Where Hidden Costs Hide

Control panel overlays seem like a small purchase. They're not. When we replaced a few overlays on panels in a washdown area, the first quote looked great until the invoice arrived with a setup fee, a die cut fee, and a special adhesive charge. I've learned to ask 'what's NOT included?' before I ask 'what's the price?' How to Buy Replacement Filters Without Regretting It
